You don’t have to stop feeling to stop living from survival mode constantly, Reader.

I made this video from Italy while I was still in the middle of something scary…

My uncle—who I've become very close to after losing both my parents within ten months and then my aunt six months later—ended up in the hospital.

I'm thousands of miles away.

Years ago, I would have panicked.

Not just felt scared.

PANICKED.

My brain would have leapt ten steps ahead into every possible scenario and I would have gotten stuck — like a needle on a record there.

But something happened this time that I was led to share with you.

I still felt frightened.

Sad.

Stressed.

I still cared deeply, and couldn’t sleep well.

BUT I didn't get stuck in a skip.

One of the simplest, and most poweful, tools I've learned is:

First things first. Second things not at all.

It means slowing everything wayyy down.

Not rapid fire panicking like—

What if this happens?

And then what if THAT happens?

And what if the surgery doesn't go well?

And what is the deal with the rehab?

And what if…

No. Full stop.

What is true right now? What is the FIRST thing?

For me, right now, it's surgery. That's it.

We'll deal with the next thing when it becomes the first thing.

Because ya wanna know something important? Your anxiety isn't actually your enemy.

And your brain isn't broken—It's trying to protect you.

The problem isn't that you have fear.

The problem is when you get stuck living there.

So if you're anxious or overwhelmed today, I want you to try something:

Don't solve your whole life, and don't try to figure out the next ten steps all at once right now. Don't decide whether something is the most important thing.

Just ask: What is my first thing?

Everything else can wait.

This is one of the ways we move from survival into freedom. 🤍

I made the whole video linked above and here in real time, from Italy, and I hope it finds whoever needs it today.

If you watch it, tell me: What's your first thing? Hit reply and let me know. I read every comment personally.

with love,

"This is the most impactful work I’ve ever done.

We identified and recalibrated long-standing patterns — personal and generational — that were quietly influencing my marriage, my parenting, and my leadership.

My income has doubled! My marriage is stronger, my time with my children is more present, I have grounded friendships, and the anxious self-talk that once ran in the background is no longer in control. I have a level of internal steadiness I never had before.

This was the most decisive investment I’ve ever made in myself. I cannot imagine navigating my life from my former baseline. -Gretchen C., KS (Business Owner + Mama)

I'm taking my own advice here too, Reader... Do. Not. Quit. on Your Dreams. In this powerful conversation with actor, writer, director, and creator of A Bronx Tale, Chazz Palminteri, we talk about his Italian American roots, family, faith, creativity, street smarts, and the conviction that changed his life. Chazz said NO to $500k from Hollywood, but he never gave up on his dream. He was into his 40s before "he made it." He grew up in the Bronx in an Italian American family, surrounded by...

Ever wonder why we’re attracted to the people who aren’t healthy for us Reader? Or why healthy love can feel so unfamiliar, boring or even unattractive? If you’ve ever wondered why you keep getting stuck in the same kind of relationship dynamics this conversation linked above is for you… Anxious and avoidant people seem to find each other and lock in. That’s when love can trigger anxiety, fear of abandonment, overthinking, withdrawal, or the desperate need for reassurance because you’re used...

Hi Reader! I took the summer off from posting and emailing. I hope you’re doing well and are getting ready to enjoy the warmth and harvest of September :) 🍇 (don’t rush into fall if you don’t want to) 😊 I like to savor this season. Preferably in Italy lol. Today’s share is a video lesson I made on Why You’re Still Anxious Even When You’re Doing All the “Right” Things… I know many of us highly sensitive women can wind up anxious, burnt out, sad, overwhelmed and second-guessing herself… If this...
