Ever wonder why we’re attracted to the people who aren’t healthy for us Reader? Or why healthy love can feel so unfamiliar, boring or even unattractive? If you’ve ever wondered why you keep getting stuck in the same kind of relationship dynamics this conversation linked above is for you… Anxious and avoidant people seem to find each other and lock in. That’s when love can trigger anxiety, fear of abandonment, overthinking, withdrawal, or the desperate need for reassurance because you’re used to old relationship patterns. In this episode, I sit down with licensed marriage and family therapist and coach Jessica Da Silva to unpack attachment styles, attachment theory, relationship anxiety, and the patterns that can shape the way we give, receive, and experience love. Together we explain the four major attachment patterns - anxious attachment, avoidant attachment, disorganized/fearful-avoidant attachment, and secure attachment - and how they influence your romantic relationships, friendships, family dynamics, self-esteem, boundaries, emotional intimacy, and the way you respond to closeness. Because if you’re here reading this, you may sense that sometimes the relationship that feels the most familiar isn't the relationship that's healthiest for us. Sometimes healthy love doesn't feel exciting at first. But you can level that standard up to where you are now, and what you want now, instead. 👉 In this conversation, you'll discover: • How your attachment patterns develop from your early experiences • Why your attachment style doesn’t have to be your permanent identity • What “earned secure attachment” means • Why becoming healthier can change the relationships you're willing to tolerate • Why secure people can initially feel unfamiliar when you're healing • Why learning to receive is just as important as learning to give • How nervous system regulation supports healthier relationship patterns • The role of parts work and learning to respond to yourself with compassion • The difference between therapy and coaching • What anxious attachment actually looks like in relationships • How self-trust changes your relationship standards • Why anxious and avoidant attachment styles often attract each other • Why avoidant partners pull away when intimacy increases • What disorganized or fearful-avoidant attachment looks like • Why self-love, self-trust, boundaries, and emotional awareness matter in relationships • How becoming more securely attached helps you create healthier romantic and personal relationships And there's a bigger question underneath all of this: What if the patterns that once helped you feel safe are keeping you from experiencing the kind of love you actually want now? Your attachment patterns don't mean you're broken. They’re protective strategies that developed for a reason. But they don't have to define who you are, who you're capable of loving, or your ability to have healthy, reciprocal relationships anymore. As we get older, relationships can become part of a much bigger process of recalibration: learning to recognize old patterns, trust yourself more deeply, set healthier boundaries, receive instead of constantly over-function or over-give, and become more intentional about the relationships you allow into your life. Because the goal isn't simply to have a “better attachment style,” it’s to raise the standard to have the freedom to choose differently - as your default now. It’s to stop confusing anxiety with chemistry, and to stop mistaking emotional unavailability for mystery. It’s to stop chasing what won't meet you, and to stop over explaining yourself. …To become available for relationships that feel safe, reciprocal, close, honest - and alive. 🤍 I’m happy you’re here. Hi Reader! I took the summer off from posting and emailing. I hope you’re doing well and are getting ready to enjoy the warmth and harvest of September :) 🍇 (don’t rush into fall if you don’t want to) 😊 I like to savor this season. Preferably in Italy lol. Today’s share is a video lesson I made on Why You’re Still Anxious Even When You’re Doing All the “Right” Things… I know many of us highly sensitive women can wind up anxious, burnt out, sad, overwhelmed and second-guessing herself… If this...
I forgive Reader. I forgive. And it has made me freer than I ever imagined. But forgiveness does not mean that I give indiscriminately anymore. For years, I confused the two. I thought being loving meant endless chances. I thought being compassionate meant endless understanding. I thought being kind meant endless access. It doesn’t. Today I forgive more easily than I ever have. And I am more selective than I have ever been. I forgive Reader. But I don’t ignore patterns. I forgive. But I don’t...
This may sound controversial Reader, but hear me out — Hope is NOT the vibe. Stop hoping. (Or at least stop living there.) Here’s why: Because we can get stuck in hope as if it were the destination. And for many women, hope becomes a hiding place. “I hope things get better.” ”I hope this is just a rough patch.” “I hope this relationship changes.” “I hope I stop feeling this way.” “I hope I find myself again.” Hope alone keeps you waiting. I’ve learned a lot through grief, loss, healing,...
